Catching Up With Pictures

It's much more fun to catch up on a month worth of blogging through pictures so here's a look at what the month of May had to offer the Irish family!
Sophia's learning how to use utensils. Here's a look at her progress...

We've been spending lots of time at the park, swinging and grandma & grandpa's house, and playing in the back yard...

Sophia's been loving on her pup-pup and baby....

And playing with the old play kitchen set....

Lunching at Alterra on Milwaukee's lakefront...

I celebrated a wonderful 2nd Mother's Day at the Zoo followed by dinner with my own wonderful mom (and dad, grandma, and grandpa, too!)...

We took Sophia to Discovery World for the first time and she loved seeing all the fish. We also took a stroll along the lakefront, stopped at the Art Museum, and checked out the cool sculpture outside of Betty Brinn...

And we ended May with a little Memorial Day celebration in Grafton. Sophia slept through the very short parade...

And a little backyard swimming in the turtle sandbox to end the holiday weekend...

Fourteen Months Later...

Well friends, in my last post I promised that if Sophia ever started sleeping I'd jump back into blogging. While she's still not sleeping through the night, she IS starting to give me regular afternoon naps (yahooooo!!). After scarfing down a quick lunch, picking up the mess of toys scattered about my house, putting in a load of laundry, and unpacking the dishwasher, I realized I still have a good half hour of nap time left (if I'm lucky) so I'm sticking to my promise and jumping back on the ole' blog. Does anyone even read this thing still?

We're enjoying life with our little monster toddler :) I LOVE this age...I really do. Sophia has developed the sweetest, strongest, most wonderful little personality - she's just so much FUN! She's running all over the place, talking up a storm, always laughing and dancing, and gives the sweetest little kisses. As her opthamologist put it, Sophia's the most strong-willed, spirited fourteen month old she's ever met. She assured me this would be a great thing later in life. I sure hope she's right! Since pictures tell the story best, here's what we've been up to over the past few months:

Sophia turned one on February 23rd. We celebrated with an owl-themed "Guess Whoooo's One" Party with all of our family and friends. Our sweet girl certainly is loved. The party turned out wonderfully and we were so thankful to have her godmother, Kelsey, there to capture some special memories of this very special day.

We even got Sophia to flash a few smiles during a one-year photo shoot with a local photographer. I'm so happy with how these pictures turned out and I think they capture her personality perfectly! (Photography by Jody Kelley with Pose Photography)

We enjoyed the mild March weather, playing outside with Sophia's new car, wagon, balls, bubbles, and swinging at the park.

Sophia just finished her first swimming class! She loves the water. She learned how to use her "scoopers" and she loves singing all the songs from swimming while in the bathtub. I wish I had brought my actual camera to a class but I didn't want to be that mom :) We'll be starting swimming again in a few months, with an outdoor class this summer (and I will bring my camera with then, promise!).

Shortly after her first birthday, Sophia got glasses to help correct her significant far-sightedness. It's been a battle to get her to keep them on but we're slowly making progress. Although, she still finds it absolutely hillarious to take them off, run away, and attempt to hide them. She thinks she's so clever! (I must add that puppy - aka pup-pup- is now Sophia's bff and frequents pictures these days :) )

Provided Sophia keeps up this napping, I may just be able to jump back into blogging regularly. I love the convenience of looking back on old blog posts to remember the big (and little) moments over the years. I hate that I already missed documenting so much of Sophia's first year but lets face it, when you're sleep deprived and just a little overwhelmed by the challenges of being a new parent, there's more important things to tackle than blogging. Here's to hoping the second year goes a litte easier...and slower :)

Bye-bye blogging?

It's already February. I still haven't gotten back into blogging. Why am I not surprised? I'm beginning to think it might be time to move on to some other way to let my (limited) creative juices flow (um, have you heard of a little thing called Pinterest?!). I do want to continue to chronicle our life with Sophia because as any parent would say time really does go far too fast! But for now, I'm going to continue on this little blogging hiatus until I'm truly ready to dedicate the time this whole blogging thing deserves. Maybe if Sophia EVER starts napping/sleeping I'll make blogging a regular part of my day again. Man does that aound dreamy (and unfortunatley extremely unlikely to be happening soon). In the meantime, you can find me attempting to recreate all those DIY projects Ive be pinning. Why didn't anyone warn me Pinterest was so addicting (have I made you want to sign up yet?) :)

Sophia's First Snow!

We had a light dusting of snow on Monday morning so I bundled Sophia up in her snowsuit and we headed outside to experience the wonder of those tiny white flakes. The snow lasted just long enough to snap some pictures of Sophia "playing". She would laugh when the snowflakes hit her in the face and she even tried to catch a few on her tongue. Just wait baby girl...you've got a long winter full of snow ahead you!
