Saved by the Thin Mint

I realized that so many of my posts recently have been so serious and heavy. I tend to write about things that stir my emotions or that I am passionate about - I forget to write about all the light-hearted, fun things that happen in my life. So today's post is a combination of both - something fun and certainly something that I am passionate about: Girl Scout Cookies.

You see, yesterday afternoon and evening we got an unexpected few inches of snowfall here in the metro Milwaukee area. Yes, just in time for the evening commute home. Or crawl as was the case last night. What normally takes us a half hour with a little evening rush hour traffic turned into a nearly two hour crawl home. We were traveling slower than a turtle, I kid you not. Of course, this type of commute home after a long day at work doesn't particularly put someone in a good mood. Dave was frustrated and using his usual choice words to express how he felt towards those "idiots" causing the accidents and slowing down traffic. I yelled at him for yelling at other drivers for a bit before deciding my time would be better spent catching up with friends (thank you Kelly for the lovely distraction!). Needless to say, we were both tired, crabby, and irritated when we finally rolled into our driveway at 6:30.

That is, until the doorbell rang. Low and behold, on our front step, was the adorable little neighbor girl I bought Girl Scout cookies from a few weeks earlier (one of MANY adorable girl scouts that schemed me into buying cookies). THEY WERE FINALLY HERE!!! I love this time of year - when the boxes of delicious Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and Trefoils fill my pantry and freezer. It was only a matter of minutes before Dave and I had all the boxes open, sampling each of the cookies as if we'd never tasted them before. To top it off, our neighbors decided they didn't want the four boxes they purchased and they sent them our way. You don't have to twist my arm to accept free GS cookies! I said to Dave, forget the gym, I am gonna eat me some cookies and relax on the couch. Afterall, I had a long commute home. It takes a lot out of a woman to yap on the phone while your husband navigates your way through a good ole' Wisconsin snowfall. So, I sat on the couch, with box in hand, marveling at the fact that yesterday was salvaged by those delicious little Girl Scout Cookies. Now all I have to do is make the first few boxes last until the next few are delivered... and hit the gym twice as hard. So worth it :)
